' $ank of Stockton- Cutter Lumber Site Page 6
Quarterly Groundwater Monitoring Report
' Project No 102 2
May 23, 2000
' 3.0 MONITORING WELL ABANDONMENT
On April 21, 2000, V&W Drilling (C-57 # 720904) mobilized to the site for the
purpose of abandoning the deep monitoring well, MW-8A This well was
constructed in 1998 to a total depth of 90 feet The screened interval was 80 to
' 90 feet The following steps tasks were performed to complete the well
abandonment
' The lock and cap were removed from the well, and the well box was removed
V&W Drilling personnel prepared neat cement for use as grout to destroy the
' well The well was fitted with a 2 inch pressure cap, and neat cement was then
pumped into it using a pneumatically actuated cement pump Pumping
continued until a positive pressure of at least 5 pounds per square inch (psig)
' was reached at each well head The volume of grout pumped was monitored to
verify that at least one casing volume of grout had been used to completely fill
' the well
The following table summarizes the mechanical details of the former monitoring
'. well, and shows the calculated volume of the casing and the pore space in the
sand pack The sum of these is the total available volume for grout The pore
space calculations assume 33 percent porosity in the sand pack over the
' thickness of the packed interval The table also shows the actual total grout
volume used
' Well Screen Sand Bore Csg Vol Sand Pack Total Avail Total
Interval Pack Dram.
