' Work Plan-Pilot Testing Page 10
Cutter Lumber Site
Project No. 142.3
October 30,2001
I
' 5.2.1 Soil Vapor Extraction System Start U
P Y P
' The vapor extraction system will be started on the first day of the pilot test. An air
sample will be collected from both the influent and effluent sides of the treatment system
to satisfy the Air Pollution Control District permit condition. The vapor extraction
' blower will be operated continually throughout the test and will only be shut down for
system maintenance. The VES equipment will be allowed to operate as a stand-alone
' system for 3 days (72 hours).
5.2.2 Air Sparge System Start Up
' The air sparge compressor will be started on the forth day of system operation. The flow
and pressure in the well will be adjusted by opening the pressure regulator air valve. The
' compressor will operate continually during the last seven days of the 10-day pilot test and
will only be shut down for system maintenance.
' 5.3 Pilot System Monitoring
The pilot system will be monitored during the course of the investigation. This will
' include making depth to groundwater measurements, airflow measurements, vapor
readings with a portable ionization detector (PID), and field measurements of oxygen in
the groundwater.
' ffluent Air Monitoring
5.3.1 Process/Effluent g
' Air samples will be collected at the start up of the system and at various times during the
operation of the system. PID readings will be made periodically during system operation
at the sample port downstream from the vapor extraction well head. An air sample will
also be collected one day after start up of the air sparge system and just prior to system
shut down. The air sample collection procedure is described in Section 6.3. Air sample
' analysis is described in Section 6.5.
5.3.2 Vacuum/Flow/Pressure Monitoring
' Vacuum flow and pressure monitoring measurements will be made on a periodic basis
during the operation of the pilot system. Air flow measurements will be made during any
' flow adjustment to the air sparge or vapor extraction system. A Solomat multi-function
meter, anemometer or similar instrument will be used to measure flow. Magnahelic
gauges will be attached to the air sparge conveyance piping, vapor extraction piping, and
' . vapor monitoring well heads to continuously measure pressure and vacuum, as needed.
2937 Veneman Ave.,#13240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc.
