Site
N,
A site survey will be performed for the purposes of obtaining a 3
detailed and scaled drawing. The drawing will be used to accurately
locate sampling locations. The survey will also determine the
volume of the excavation as well as the volume of the excavated soil
and identify physical constraints to excavation and remediation.
ton
Five soil borings will be installed around the perimeter of the existing
excavation as shown in Figure 2-1. Two of the borings will be
installed on the northeast side of the excavation close to former ii
sampling location S6. These borings will be placed 5 feet from the ''
edge of the excavation and will be advanced to the first unconfined 1'
groundwater. One of the borings will be installed on the west side of
{ the excavation along the property line to determine if contaminants !
have migrated beyond former sampling location S3. The other two
borings will be installed 5 feet from the edge of the excavation ;
{ adjacent to former sampling locations S1 and S2. Additional borings
may be installed depending on the findings of these five initial
borings. Where contamination has been confirmed by visual
staining, odor, or analytical results, additional borings will be
advanced radially outward from the edge of the excavation until
clean soil is founds. All borings will be installed using a mobile truck
mounted drill rig using hollow stem augers. The soils from the
borings will be logged according to the Unified Soil Classification
System (Appendix B). The drilling logs will be based on information
obtained from drill cuttings, actual soil samples, and changes in j
drilling characteristics. Locations of utilities on the former tank site
will be identified prior to proceeding with the soil investigation.
All borings will be advanced to the depth of the first encountered !a
unconfined groundwater. In addition, groundwater samples will be
collected from selected borings using a modified hydropunch (See
section "Groundwater Sample Collection"). '
A single boring will be advanced to approximately 75' in a confirmed
clean zone in order to determine stratigraphy of the first unconfined
' aquifer and the presence of any underlying clay layers or additional '
intermediate aquifers. This information will be important for 21
estimating flow characteristics of the first unconfined water, and any
possible hydraulic communication with underlying water bearing
formations.
1 All soil borings will be installed on Marina Pro's property. No borings will be
advanced beyond the boundaries of the Manna Pro facility property without prior
approval from the appropriate property owner(s).
If
f 2-2
L :
