IWork Plan for Characterization and Remediation of Stockpiled Soils July 30, 1992
Manna Pro Facility, 4004 EI Dorado Street, Stockton, CA 4
Imetals were present In the samples In addition, four composited samples were analyzed for aquatic
toxicity None of the samples failed the aquatic toxicity testing (I a 96 hour LC50 was greater than
750 mg/L)
I2.3 Quarterly Groundwater Monitoring and Sampling Program
Pursuant to SJCPHS and In accordance with Section 2652(d) of the Underground Storage Tank
Regulations 23 CCR Subchapter 16, groundwater monitoring and sampling has been performed
quarterly beginning In October 1991 Quarterly groundwater monitoring and sampling reports have
' been prepared and submitted to SJCPHS and RWOCS The last report was submitted on July 15,
1992 for monitoring and sampling completed in April 1992 The data presented in the quarterly
reports has shown that no significant changes in the petroleum hydrocarbons plume in groundwater
has occurred since beginning quarterly monitoring and sampling
3.0 SCOPE OF WORK
The tasks required to achieve the project objectives outlined above, are discussed below In
addition, the target criteria for soil segregation and Initial remediation are presented
Task 1: Soil Characterization Sampling
It is estimated that there is approximately 4,000 cubic yards of sod in six stockpiles at the site The
stockpiled sods will be characterized by representative sod sampling and laboratory analyses to
determine which soil can be returned to the excavation immediately and which will require treatment
before being used as backfill material A total of 100 soil samples will be collected from the total
Ivolume of stockpiled soil on-site, representing one sample per 4o cubic yards of soil' Sod sample
collection will be performed in a grid pattern to accomplish an equal representation over the entire
volume of sod The samples will be collected at a depth of approximately 2 feet using a hand held
sampling device lined with 2-inch-diameter by 6-inch-long brass sampling tubes After the samples
are collected the ends of the brass tubes will be covered with foil and plastic caps Duct tape will
be used to seal the plastic caps to the brass tubes After being sealed the samples will be labeled
' t This sampling density is similar to that used by Forward, Inc landfill in Stockton for sod characterization purposes
Forward, Inc uses one sample per 50 yds Sampling densities approved by other counties in California vary generally
' between one sample per 20 yds and one sample per 100 yds
'GROUNDWATER
TECHNOLOCY, INC
