Work Plan for Characterization and Remediation of Stockpiled Soils July 30, 1992
Manna Pro Facility, 4004 EI Dorado Street, Stockton, CA 3
Iwork plan that was approved by San Joaquin County An addendum to the re-excavation work plan,
calling for the removal of 5000 cubic yards of soil, was filed with San Joaquin County on September
12, 1990. In actuality, a total of approximately 4,000 cubic yards was excavated
Before proceeding with additional excavation, O'Melveny &. Myers (legal council for Manna Pro)
contracted with ERM-West, Inc (ERM) to review the status of the work performed to date and
provide a recommendation for further work at the site The initial assessment work performed by
' ERM, completed in October 1990, consisted of trenching and soil sampling within the excavation
area Additional excavation of the site was performed on October 11, 1990, under the September
' 12, 1990 work plan
To further assess the extent of petroleum hydrocarbon occurrence in the subsurface soils and
groundwater at the site, ERM conducted sod and groundwater sampling at the facility during
November and December 1990 Twenty five sod borings were installed in the area of the excavation,
and the existing soil stockpiles were sampled to identify clean and hydrocarbon impacted soils
Details of this soil and groundwater investigation, as well as a discussion of the results of other
previous investigations are presented in the ERM report titled Soil and Groundwater Investigation at
Manna Pro, Inc Facility, dated December 1990 (Appendix A)
The location p Figure I of the soils stockpiled on site are shown on Fi ure 2 of this report and Figure 1-3,
Appendix A The analytical results for soil samples collected from the six soil stockpiles at the site
by ERM in November 1990 are summarized in Table 3-3, Appendix A Stockpile 2 was not included
In the sampling program because it is clean granular fill material Concentrations of TPH-as-diesel
ranged from 9 3 ppm to 18 ppm in the soil samples collected from Stockpile 1 A concentration of
TPH-as-gasoline was only detected In one sod sample from Stockpile 1 at 3 ppm Concentrations of
TPH-as-diesel ranged from 33 ppm to 1,100 ppm (averaging approximately 250 ppm) in the samples
collected from Stockpiles 3 through 6 Concentrations of TPH-as-gasoline ranged from <1 ppm to
I15 ppm in the soil samples collected from Stockpiles 3 through 6
Additional soil characterization work was performed on samples collected from the stockpiled sod in
I June 1991 Sixteen soil samples were collected and composited to eight samples for TTLC analysis
for lead, cadmium, chromium and zinc The results indicated no elevated concentrations of these
GROUNDWATER
p_ TECHNOLOGY, INC
