Evaluation of Best Available Technology for Remediation of Hydrocarbon Impacted Sod and Groundwater 1
Manna Pro, 4004 EI Dorado Street, Stockton, CA November 22, 1994
1 0 INTRODUCTION
This document has been prepared to supplement the Pilot Testing Report and Conceptual
Corrective Action Plan dated July 15, 1994, prepared by Groundwater Technology, Inc for the
' Manna Pro facility at 4004 EI Dorado Street In Stockton, California The purpose of the corrective
action plan is to summarize investigative findings and provide a conceptual design for corrective
' actions to address hydrocarbon impacted sod and groundwater at the facility The soil and
groundwater at the facility have been Impacted by past releases of gasoline and diesel fuel This
document clarifies the decision process for selection of the best available and most cost effective
' technologies for the present Manna Pro site conditions
2 0 EVALUATION OF BEST AVAILABLE TECHNOLOGIES
' This section describes the best available remediation technologies evaluated for hydrocarbon
impacted sods and groundwater and their application The most common field proven technologies
' include
• soil excavation and ex situ treatment or off-site disposal
e soil venting
groundwater extraction and treatment
• groundwater sparging
' high vacuum dual phase extraction
high vacuum extraction with groundwater pumping
• bioremediation
1
' 21 Soil Excavation
Sod excavation and disposal is most often applied to small volumes/shallow impacted soils This
' method offers very fast treatment, but would be costly In this case
Excavated sod can sometimes be treated on-site in soil piles After treatment, the sod can remain
' on-site or be removed to a suitable location Aboveground aeration and incineration are common
types of treatment in these cases Because the volume of impacted soils is great and the depth to
' groundwater is considerable (about 50 feet), soil excavation and treatment/disposal was determined
to be cost prohibitive for the Manna Pro site In addition, this technology does not address
impacted groundwater
0096R014 202
GROUNDWATER
' TECHNOLOGY, INC
