Report-P,lot Remedial S}stem Test Page 5
Former Manna Pro Site
Project No 207 3
. July 31,2000
• In order to test the effectiveness of ORC in containing the lateral spread of
hydrocarbons resulting from the operation of the remedial system, a soil boring was
drilled down gradient of the vapor extraction well The saturated interval in the
bonng (25 to 50 feet below ground surface) was backfilled with 300 pounds of ORC
compound The effectiveness of the ORC was measured by collecting groundwater
' samples from down-gradient well, MW-6 and measuring the dissolved oxygen
content from this well
s Upon completion of the required bonngs and wells, the pilot air sparge / vapor
extraction system was installed Vapors were extracted and destroyed using an
internal combustion engine (ICE)
• After the vapor extraction system had been in operation for approximately 24 hours,
the air sparge system was activated A 1 5 horsepower compressor was connected to
the sparge well used to infect air into it The air flow was metered and controlled
• During the pilot test, samples of vapor extraction effluent gas were collected, and
certain physical parameters including depth to groundwater, oxygen levels, air flow
and vacuum were measured in the nearby observation wells and from the vapor
' extraction and air sparge wells
• Although not a part of the pilot test, this scope of work also included completion of a
water production well survey This was to determine if any water wells exist within
2,000 feet of the point of release
1
r
r
r
r
2937 Veneman Ave , #!13240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc Phone(209)569-0293
Modesto,CA 95356 Fax(209)569-0295
r
