' Report—Fist Phase Remedial System Page 7 <br /> Y <br /> Former Manna Pro Site <br />' Project No 207 3 <br /> June 18,2002 <br />' 3.0 SURFACE EQUIPMENT & SYSTEM OPERATION <br />' 3.1 System Installation <br /> The equipment for the pilot system was installed after the new air sparge well was <br />' constructed An area adjacent to an existing shed was designated as the location for the <br /> surface equipment (see Figure 2) The surface equipment was connected to the vapor <br /> extraction well and two sparge wells by installing underground pipe runs to connect to the <br /> wells with surface equipment Prior to installing the service equipment the following <br /> preparatory tasks were completed <br /> Pipe Runs &Well Box Preparation <br /> The asphalt pavement was saw-cut in preparation for laying pipe runs and setting special <br /> well boxes The cut pavement was removed, as were the original well boxes Well boxes <br />' specially modified to accommodate service pipes were installed over each of the three <br /> service wells A trenching machine was used to cut 4-inch wide trenches about 18 inches <br /> deep A 3-inch diameter run of PVC pipe was laid in the trench and connected to the <br />' VES well and the vapor extraction system (see Figures 3 and 5) Two-inch diameter pipe <br /> runs were laid and connected to the two air sparge wells and the air compressor system <br /> After the pipe runs were laid, the trenches were back-filled with imported road mix and <br /> compacted An asphalt contractor patched the pavement over the trenches For the most <br /> part, this work was completed during August 2001 <br /> Electrical Service <br /> The electrical service available at the equipment site was inadequate to operate the <br /> equipment intended for the remedial system Consequently, Valley Utilities, a licensed <br /> electrical contractor, was contracted to construct a suitable electrical service The service <br /> consists of a 240, volt, 90-amp, 3-phase electrical system equipped with a 120-volt local <br /> outlet and a watt-hour meter to gauge electrical use <br /> 3.1.1 Vapor Extraction System Installation <br /> The vapor extraction system consists of a Fuji 7-horsepower regenerative blower capable <br /> of pumping about 215 scfm under a vacuum of 30 inches of water The system was <br /> equipped with a by-pass ball valve to regulate the extraction rate to less than 175 scfm <br /> Up-stream of the blower, a free-water-knock-out chamber was install to prevent <br /> formation water vapor from entering the system and a cartridge filter was installed to <br /> remove any particulates from entering the blower The blower exhaust was directed <br /> through two 1,000-pound carbon filters connected in series to extract gasoline <br /> hydrocarbons prior to discharging the exhaust vapor to the atmosphere <br /> 2937 Veneman Ave,##13240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc Phone(209) 569-0293 <br /> Modesto,CA 95356 Fax(209)569-0295 <br />
