Stantec
Quarterly Status Summary Report - Second Quarter 2090
ARCO Service Station No. 2130
August 16, 2010
domestic, and agricultural) within 2000 ft, and surface water bodies, schools, and other
receptors within 500 ft of the site. The survey consisted of a review of the Department of Water
Resources (DWR) San Joaquin District office well information for the Township, Range, and
Section in which the site is located ; contacting the City of Stockton Municipal Utilities
Department (CSMUD) , California Water Service (CWS), and the local water purveyors to
ascertain the location and pertinent well construction information of nearby wells; and a 500 foot
field reconnaissance to locate and/or confirm the presence of wells or other sensitive receptors .
DWR identified no well records within the Township, Range, and Section in which the site is
located . The nearest wells identified in DWR records are located approximately 2,200 ft to the
northwest of the site.
URS contacted CSMUD to ascertain whether they operated any wells in the vicinity of the site.
According to CSMUD , there are two city wells operating within 2 ,000 ft of the site. City well
No. 4 located 1 ,200 ft south-southeast of the site on Segovia Lane is 600 ft deep and has a
production capacity of 1 .5 million gallons per day (mgd). City well No . 12 located 1 ,600 ft south
of the site at 341 Leslie Avenue is 410 ft deep and has a production capacity of 0.82 mgd .
Additionally, URS contacted the Stockton office of CWS to ascertain whether they operated any
wells in the vicinity of the ARCO site. CWS determined that it does not own or operate any
wells within 2,000 ft of the site .
On December 6 , 2004, URS performed a 500 foot field reconnaissance to identify and/or verify
the location of wells, water bodies, and schools. No surface water bodies, schools, or wildlife
habitats were identified within 500 ft of the site. The nearest school identified is Pulliam
Elementary, located approximately 1 ,300 ft southeast of the site.
Monitoring and Sampling
No groundwater monitoring or sampling was conducted during 2Q10. The site will continue to
be sampled semiannually during the first and third quarters .
Current Assessment Activities
No assessment activities were conducted during 2Q10.
Remediation Status
There is currently no active remediation being conducted at the site . A soil vapor extraction (SVE)
system operated at the site from August 1995 through June 1998. Rising groundwater levels
caused the screens of the vapor extraction wells to become partially or fully submerged .
EMCON Associates of Sacramento, California concluded that insufficient screen was available
to effectively operate the SVE system. Additionally, an air sparge (AS) system was previously
operated at the site. The system was found to be non-operational during 4Q09 due to a blown
compressor. Since the AS system had not proven to be effective in treating existing petroleum
hydrocarbons in the subsurface at the site, the system was left non-operational . The above
ground portion of the remediation system will be removed , and the integrity of the sub grade
portion of the system will be investigated during 3Q10. Stantec and ARC are currently
reviewing alternative remedial options.
2130 QSSR 2Q10 .doc 2
