If hydrocarbons are detected using the PID below 25 feet, the
boring depth will be adjusted accordingly so the screened interval will extend over the
interval that the PID detected hydrocarbons. The borings will be converted to vapor-
extraction
aporextraction wells, and a VET will be conducted before the tank removal. The purpose of
conducting the VET is to evaluate the feasibility of vapor recovery in the natural soil and
assist in remediation of soil in subsequent phases of work if warranted.
Qollecting Soil Samples
During drilling, soil samples will be collected at 5-foot or other appropriate intervals
using a California-modified, split-spoon sampler equipped with clean brass sleeves.
Samples will be collected by drilling the boring to a point just above the sampling depth
and then driving the sampler into the soil through the hollow center of the auger. The
sampler will be driven 18 inches with a standard 140-pound hammer dropped 30 inches.
The number of blows required to drive the sampler each successive 5-inch interval will
be counted and recorded on the field boring log to give an indication of soil consistency.
Soil samples will be collected, identified, and evaluated for relative levels of gasoline
hydrocarbons using a PID when appropriate. Examples of the Field Boring Log, the
Unified Soil Classification System, and Log of Boring are included in Appendix C to this
work plan.
Soil samples collected for possible chemical analysis will be promptly sealed with
uminum fT 1' astic caps, an tap. They will then be labeled and placed i ice
storage for transport to the analyti 1 laboratory. A Chain of Custody Record will be
N
Applied' GOOSystems
