2
I
1,}-,:nbert Barnum
November 24, 1990
Page 2
Soil samples were collected at a depth of 7 feet using a hand auger and driven tube
sampler. All soil samples collecaed for possile mmed'abely placeidainaaalysis were chilled ice chest Snit
ith
aluminum foil-lined lids, labeled
samples collected were analyzed in accordance with the FRP-
All samples were labeled in such a manner
ler and accompanied the samplesttolthe an
mm
of-custody form was initiated by the p
laboratory. This chain-of-custody form is presented in Appendix 1.
The soil samples collected were delivered to Superior Laboratory in Martinez, California
a State approved laboratory (Certification Number 319), for the type of analyses
performed. All samples were analyzed in accordance with EPA SW-846 Methods 5030 and
8020 for benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylenes (BTXE),by Standard Method 5520F
A SW-846 Method 8015 for total petroleum
for oil and grease, and Modified EP
hydrocarbons (TPH).
Mnnitarin Wells
As proposed in the FRP each of the three monitoring wells installed at the Stan Mori Ford
dealership will be sampled and the samples analyzed for purgeable halocarbon by EPA
Method 601 on a quarterly basis for the period of one year.
Each of these wells was sampled on November 25, 1990. Prior to sampling, each well was
purged of three to Five well volumes of water until specific conductivity and pH values of
the water had stabilized. Each well was sampled using separate dedicated PVC bailers for
each well. Two 40 ml VOA vials were collected from each well and placed in a chilled
ice chest until delivery to a certified analytical laboratory.
FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS
Aug
Results of analytical laboratory tests are presented in Table 1 and in Appendix 1. A total
of seven soil samples were analyzed for BTXE and oil and grease. A single composite
sample, comprised of six separate soil samples d4rived from the stockpiled soil, was
analyzed for TPH as diesel.
{ The soils samples collected manually by hand auger and driver-tube sampler were all
collected from a depth of 7 feet below the surface. This was the maximum depth
reachable using the hand auger. The average oil and grease concentration of 397 mg/kg
-- - y-high-
for-the five-augerhole-samples is suspected of-being_artificiall _hi h due to the augerng
