There are no municipal, domestic, or irrigation water wells within 500 feet
of the site, Data obtained from the California Department of Water Resources indicates '
water-supply wells are within 1/2 mile of the site. The wells are listed in Table 1 and
depicted on Plate 1. Some of the wells are probably inactive, and other wells may exist near
the site but do not appear in the records.
SUBSURFACE INVESTIGATION
Details of the drilling operations, soil sampling, well construction and development, and
water sampling are presented below. Field work performed by RESNA on behalf of ARCO
® at the project site was conducted in accordance with RESNA's Work Plan (May 17, 1991),
RESNA's Addendum to Work Plan (Novemb,':r 18, 1991), and Site Safety Plans No.30003-
1S (May 1, 1991) and 30003-4S (December-1P., 1991). Our field methods and chain-of-
custody protocol are described in Appendix A. Copies of the Chain of Custody records and
laboratory reports for soil and water samples are included in '.ppendix B.
Spoil Borings and Soil Samplin
In June 1991, RESNA observed Woodward Drilling of Rio Vista, California, drill one soil
boring (B1) near the fillport ends of the existing tank cavity to evaluate the soil for possible
residual hydrocarbons. Hydrocarbons were detected through soil sample field screening
using a photoionization detector(PID); therefore, further drilling at the site was postponed
until the site was added to the SJCPHS-EHD pilot program.
RESNA continued the subsurface investigation during December 1991. We observed
Woodward Drilling drill four soil borings (133, 134, B5, and 137) to approximately 65 feet
bel ow-grade-(approximately-l-foot-be]ow-ground-water)-and-three-soil-borings-(B2,-$6,-and
---------------------- --- ---
138) to approximately 75 feet below grade. The locations of the borings are shown on Plate .
.. 2.
3=1-aw 3
