Hydrocarbon fuels - Components of fuels are colorless liquids with strong aromatic <br /> petroleum hydrocarbon-like odors. They are flammable and have low solubility in water. <br /> Exposure to these materials in excess of recommended exposure limits can cause mild eye, <br /> nose, and throat irritation and can produce a narcotic effect on the central nervous system. <br /> Symptoms of exposure at these concentrations include headache, nausea, drowsiness, <br /> dizziness,and loss of coordination. Certain components of gasoline(BTEX etc.)are known <br /> or suspected carcinogens. <br /> The following additional hazards are expected on site:typical work related to facility.Noise,falling <br /> rods, flying hammer, snapped cables, etc. on the drillrk(if applicable). <br /> 4.0. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT <br /> Based on evaluation of potential hazards, the following levels of personal protection have been <br /> designated for the applicable work areas or task- <br /> 00" <br /> ask: <br /> Exclusion Zone Drill borings A B C D Other <br /> Reduction Zone Preserve samples A B C D Other <br /> and log borings <br /> Support Zone Support functions A B C D Other <br /> Specific protective equipment for each level of protection used is follows: <br /> hard hat <br /> steel-toed boots <br /> Level D: half-faced respirator(if necessary) <br /> gloves <br /> safety glasses <br /> If air purifying respirators are authorized,organic vapor and dust is the appropriate canister for use <br /> with the involved substances and concentrations.
