19 September 2001
AGE-NC Project No. 01-0872
Page 3 of 6
3.0. SCOPE OF WORK
Based on the analytical results from the UST removal soil samples, an unauthorized release of
petroleum hydrocarbon compounds from the USTs appears to have occurred at the site. AGE
proposes to advance three soil borings to collect soil and in-situ grab ground water samples to assess
the lateral and vertical extent of the petroleum hydrocarbon impact.The preliminary site assessment
will consist of the following tasks:
• Permitting and pre-field work preparations;
• Soil sample collection and analysis;
• Ground water sample collection and analysis; and
• Report preparation.
Each of these tasks is described below.
3.1. PRE-FIELD WORK PREPARATIONS
A health and safety plan will be prepared in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health
Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational Safety
and Health Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 1985).
Prior to mobilization, each boring location will be clearly marked and a utility clearance obtained
through Underground Service Alert.
3.2. DRILLING AND SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION
Initially, AGE proposes to advance three soil probe borings at the site as part of site assessment
activities. Proposed probe boring locations are illustrated in Figure 2.
Based on soil contamination encountered beneath the former USTs, AGE proposes soil probe
borings in the following locations: .
• In the former fuel UST area;
• In the former waste oil UST area; and
• Adjacent to the former diesel fuel dispenser.
Advanced GcoEnvironmental,Inc.
