Tank pit formally held one 5000 gallon <br /> tank and two 10 ,'000 gallon underground storage tanks <br /> which contained gasoline and diesel products . Soil j <br /> r1{ removed from tank pit is presently stock-piled on site. I <br /> L It is anticipated that the depth will be increased to <br /> about 17 feet below grade, and new soil excavated from <br /> existingtank pit, will be stock-piled on site pending <br /> analysis of soil samples . <br /> 5 . 0 CHEMICAL HAZARDS <br /> CHealth studies have shown that many petroleum <br /> hydrocarbons and 'synthetic lubricants pose potential <br /> human health risks which may vary from person to person. <br /> As a precaution, 'exposure to liquids, vapors, mists or <br /> High vapor concentrations (Exposure limit for total <br /> j gasoline and 'diesel products is 100 ppm (TWA) are <br /> irritating to the eyes and the respiratory tract, may <br /> cause headaches and dizziness , are anesthetic, may cause <br /> unconsciousness , ' and may have other central nervous <br /> system effects including 'death. Prolonged or repeated <br /> liquid contact ,with the skin will dry and defat the skin, <br /> leading to possible irritation and dermatitis . Product <br /> contacting the 'eyes may cause eye irritation. Gasoline <br /> products may contain up to a maximum of 4 . 9 weight <br /> percent benzene, as a natural constituent of various <br /> gasoline blend1components . <br /> According to the ACGIH, benzene is a suspected human <br /> carcinogen, and can cause anemia and other blood <br /> diseases , inclu'di,ng leukemia (cancer of the blood-forming <br /> - 2 <br /> U <br /> r� <br /> E� <br />
