DAYNE L. FRARY, GEOLOGIST;':' 1 - ?
Consulting in Geology and Environmental Science
2713 Silver Drive
Bakersfield, California 93306
(805) 872-1919 Fax (805) 872-8306
December 8, 1997
Dwight Davis
The Pegasus Group, Inc.
1148 Alpine Road
Walnut Creek, California 94596
Subject: Report of Abandonments of five groundwater monitoring wells at Village West
Marina, 6649 Embarcadero Drive in Stockton, California.
Project No. 1297-012-4
Mr. Davis:
On December 5, 1997, 1 was on-site to direct the abandonments of the five subject
monitoring wells at Village West Marina in accordance with California Department of
y _=j Water Resources Bulletin 74-90 and the requirements of the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Division (SJCEHD). A blanket permit for well destruction by
pressure-grouting was first obtained from the SJCEHD on November 24, 1997. The
permit and a copy of the appropriate State DWR requirements are included as
attachments to this report.
V&W Drilling Company of Rio Vista, California provided tremmying services at my
request. Mr. Steve Sasson of the SJCEHD was also on-site to witness the
abandonment activities.
The total depth and depth-to-water in each 2-inch inside-diameter (I.D.) well was
sounded prior to pressure grouting. Each well was pumped with Basalite 1.-,I1 cement
utilizing a tremmy pipe with a sealed valve attached to the top-of-casing:. Approximately
40 psi were applied to pump the cement through the perforated interval into`:the;aand
pack of each well, filling the casing with returns to the surface.
For a 2-inch 1.D. casing, the volume is 0.0218-cubic foot per linear foot. The rvofume of
cement pumped included an approximate 35% excess to ensure full perforation/sand-
pack penetration and returns to the surface.
