23 March 2005
AGE-NC Project No. 97-0360
without preservative. After collection, the samples were properly labeled, placed in a chilled
j container, and transported under chain of custody to Cal Tech Environmental Laboratories(CTEL),
a California Department of Health Services(DHS)-certified analytical laboratory. The samples were
analyzed for:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) and diesel (TPH-d) in
accordance with EPA Method 8015M; and
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes(BTEX)and fuel additives methyl tertiary-
butyl ether (MTBE), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE), tertiary-
amyl methyl ether (TAME), tertiary-butyl alcohol (TBA), 1,2-dibromoethane (EDB), and
1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) in accordance with EPA Method 8260B.
3.0. FINDINGS
i
Ground water elevation, flow direction, and gradient were determined from field data collected on
13 October 2004.The hydrocarbon-impact to ground water was quantified from laboratory analysis
V1of the ground water samples.
1
3.1. GROUND WATER GRADIENT AND FLOW DIRECTION
At the time of the October 2004 sampling event, depths to ground water in wells MW-1 through
MW-5 and EW-1 ranged from 8.25 feet (EW 1) to 10.10 feet (MW-2) below the well heads.
Average ground water elevation at the site (excluding MW-2 and EW-1)was approximately 2.87
___ feet above mean sea level (MSL; Table 1).
The ground water flow direction was inferred using ground water elevation data from the monitoring
wells on-site. Well MW-2 was not used to determine ground water flow direction or gradient
because it is screened at a deeper interval than the other wells.Well EW-1 was not used to determine
ground water flow direction or gradient because it has a larger casing diameter than the other wells.
Ground water flow waseedlo be generally flowing in a trough, trending south, with limbs
-1 flowing soh ands so west at gradients of approximately 0.002 foot/foot(ft/ft).Figure 3
illustrates the contoured ground water elevations as measured on 13 October 2004.
V-A\ t o
H
3.2. ANALYTICAL RESULTS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
No analytes were detected at or above laboratory reporting limits in any of the ground water samples
_i Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
