RECEIVED
MAR 2 4 2017
0 ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
PERM ITISEPk/IfES
March 21, 2017
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
Page 2 of 3
Reference: Fuel Line Upgrade Soil Sampling Report
7-Eleven #19976
1399 North Main Street
Manteca, California
were collected under the direct supervision of Ms. Elena Manzo with the SJCEHD. Each soil sample
was collected in a clean, two-inch-diameter by six-inch-long brass sample liner that was driven
into the native soil beneath the pea gravel at approximately four feet below ground surface (bgs)
using a hand auger.
Ms. Manzo requested the collection of an additional sample approximately 10 feet north of SB-4
under the former fuel lines. Pea gravel was encountered in this area to a depth of at least five
feet bgs. The contractor was unable to remove additional pea gravel without undermining the
nearby canopy footing.
On December 14, 2016, the contractor installed a vertical casing at this location and removed the
pea gravel inside the casing. One sample (SB-7@15') was collected from the native soil at 15 feet
bgs using a 2-inch diameter casing driven into the native soil.
The soil samples collected for analysis were retained in the brass liners, labeled, and capped with
Teflon@ sheets and plastic end caps. The samples were then sealed in a zip-lock bag, placed on
ice, and transported to TestAmerica Laboratories, Inc. located in Nashville,Tennessee,
accompanied by the appropriate chain-of-custody (COC) documentation. The soil samples were
analyzed for gasoline-range organics (GRO) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) using
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Method 82608, and for total lead using EPA Method
6010B. Copies of the field notes are included in Attachment A.
ANALYTICAL RESULTS
Soil sample results are summarized in Table 1. GRO and VOCs were not detected at
concentrations above the laboratory reporting limits in the soil samples collected from SB-3, SB-4,
SB-5, and SB-6. A GRO concentration of 6.96 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) was detected in
sample SB-7@15'. Total lead concentrations ranged from 1.25 mg/kg to 5.81 mg/kg. Copies of
the certified analytical laboratory reports and COC documentation are presented in Attachment
B.
SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS
On December 6, 2016,Stantec collected four soil samples from native soil near the fuel dispensers.
On December 14, 2016, Stantec collected one soil sample from native soil at 15 feet bgs near the
dispensers. Petroleum hydrocarbons were not detected at concentrations above laboratory
reporting limits in the soil samples, except for a GRO concentration and various VOCs in sample
SB-7@ 15'.
Design with community in mind
