Background location B-7 was located outside of
' the Louise Avenue Infiltration Area (east side), which reportedly does not receive
process wastewater. The vadose zone sample locations are depicted on Plates 5 and
' 6.
3.2.1 Collection of Soil Samples
The samples were collected by advancing a stainless steel hand auger to the desired
' sampling depth and driving a stainless steel tube into the soil with a slide hammer. The
hand auger and sampling equipment were cleaned between sample locations with a
' Liquinox® (laboratory grade detergent) and potable water wash followed by a distilled
water rinse. Each sample was individually labeled and placed in an iced cooler pending
transport to the analytical laboratory under chain-of-custody protocols.
3.2.2 Chemical Analysis of Soil Samples
Each of the 24 soil samples collected for quantitative analysis were submitted under
' chain-of-custody control to Test America (formerly Sequoia Analytical), of Morgan Hill,
California.
' The twenty-four (24) soil samples were analyzed for the following:
' . pH by EPA Method 9045C
' . Volatile Solids by EPA Method 160.4
Cation Exchange Capacity by EPA Method 9081
Nitrate as Nitrogen by EPA Method 300.0
' . Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen by EPA Method 351.2M
' Test America is accredited by DHS for the requested analyses. Samples were analyzed
on a regular laboratory turn-around schedule, requiring approximately 10 working days
for receipt of analytical data.
' For additional information regarding the chemical analyses, please refer to the laboratory
data sheets in Appendix C.
101486.4/STO12R025 Page 10 of 20 February 1, 2012
Copyright 2012 Kleinfelder
