( KLE/NFELOER
eqn oai eqn sir
5 CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The conclusions and recommendations are derived from groundwater and soil sampling
activities during the Third Quarter 2011 at the California Natural Products facility located
in Lathrop, California.
5.1 CONCLUSIONS
During the Third Quarter 2011, the approximate groundwater flow direction
in the vicinity of the Plant Area was to the south/southeast with a gradient of
1 0.005 ft/ft. The flow direction in the McKinley Avenue Rapid Infiltration Area
was to the west with a gradient of 0.02 ft/ft. The groundwater flow direction
1 in the Louise Avenue Application Area was calculated to be towards the
west/southwest with a gradient of 0.005 ft/ft. These findings are generally
consistent with past monitoring events. Throughout the year, the
Mgroundwater elevations and gradients appeared to be relatively consistent.
The groundwater quality in the Rapid Infiltration Area was generally
consistent with historical results. The TDS concentrations were above the
' recommended SMCL (500 mg/1) in the upgradient well W-4, and above the
SMCL upper limit (1,000 mg/1) in W-1. Nitrate as N concentrations were
above the MCL (10 mg/1) in two of the three McKinley area wells (W-1 and
W-5). Total and fecal coliform organisms were detected in only one of three
wells (W-1) in the McKinley area.
The groundwater quality from the Louise Avenue Infiltration Areas was also
' generally consistent with historical results. The TDS concentrations were
equal to or above the SMCL (500mg/1) in each of the six wells. The
concentrations of nitrate as N were above the MCL of 10 angle in 3 (L-2, L-
3, and L-4) of the six wells. TKN concentrations were detected in five of the
six wells. Total and fecal coliform organisms were not detected in this area.
101486.4/STO11 R242 Page 14 of 17 October 31, 2011
Copyright 2011 Kleinfelder
