FIELD PROCEDURES
All field procedures will be overseen by an AGE representative under the supervision of a California
Registered Geologist Procedures for soil excavation, soil sampling, equipment decontamination and
monitoring well installation are outlined below
41 SOIL EXCAVATION PROCEDURES
Soil will be excavated using an excavator Soil will be stockpiled under and covered by plastic on the
site Excavated soil will be field screened for the presence of volatile organic compounds using an
OVM Based on OVM readings and field observations, excavated soil will be segregated into clean
soil (if appropriate) and impacted soil, only soil exhibiting hydrocarbon odors or measured OVM
readings will be transported for disposal The excavation will be backfilled with clean fill material or
pea gravel
The open excavation area will be surrounded by temporary fencing No AGE or subcontractor
personnel will be allowed into any excavation greater than five feet bsg without proper excavation
shoring and/or sloping techniques are in-practice and supervised
The hydrocarbon impacted soil will be characterized pending disposal at Forward Landfill
42 EXCAVATION SOIL SAMPLING PROCEDURES
Soil samples collected from the base and sidewalls of the excavation will be obtained using an
excavator Soil samples will be collected from the bucket of the excavating equipment with a metric
soil sampling hammer and one 6-Inch long by 2-inch diameter brass sleeve, from the excavated soil
material The exposed ends of the sample sleeve will be covered with Teflon sheets, capped and
sealed with tape
Soil samples will be collected firom soil stockpiles by digging approximately one foot into the soil
stockpile Soil samples will be collected by hand sampling methods using a stainless steel or carbon
steel trowel,by pressing a metric soil sampling hammer and one 6-Inch long by 2-inch diameter brass
sleeve into the soil stockpile
Following sample collection, each sample sleeve will be labeled with the boring location, depth, time,
date and sampler's initials Appropriately sealed and labeled samples wllI be placed in a chilled
container under ice and transported under chain-of-custody procedure to a DHS-certified laboratory
Advanced GcoEnvironmenlal,Inc
