Limited Phase II Site Assessment Work Plan
239 West 11 th Street
Tracy, California
Project No. 2E-1108004
Page 5
3.1.2. Soil Field Screening and Analysis
A replicate portion of each soil sample will be placed in a resealable container for field
screening. A PID equipped with the appropriate lamp based on the ionization potential
of the residual VOC vapors will be utilized. Screening results from the PID are
registered in parts per million (ppm) based on an isobutylene standard which is
referenced to the ionization potential of benzene. Screening results will be noted on
Records of Subsurface Exploration. The PID will be calibrated on a daily basis. The
field staff will maintain a log of daily calibration that will be included as part of their field
documentation. Replicate samples, intended for laboratory analysis will not be used for
PID screening.
Based on the results of the PID field screening and/or the specifications of the work plan,
replicate soil samples will be selected for laboratory analysis. Soil samples will be
submitted to Accutest Analytical Testing Corporation (Accutest), located in San Jose,
California, for analysis. Giles proposes that five (5) select soil samples collected from
the Geoprobe® borings be submitted. The chemical analysis will include TPH-CC
(8015B); and VOCs (8260B).
3.2. Groundwater Sampling Methods
3.2.1. Temporary Wells and Sampling
Giles will install three of the soil borings to temporary wells and collect groundwater
samples. The samples will either be obtained through dedicated tubing and a peristaltic
pump, or a disposable polyethylene bailer. Groundwater samples will be submitted to
Accutest for analysis. Three (3) groundwater samples will be analyzed for VOCs.
3.3. Decontamination procedures
Field decontamination procedures for direct -push sampling equipment will be implemented
to provide representative samples by reducing the potential for cross -contamination
between sampling locations. The cutting shoe at the time of the direct -push sampling
device will be cleaned and decontaminated between successive samples and the entire
sampling device including core barrel and shoe will be cleaned and decontaminated
between successive boring locations. If additional decontamination techniques are required
(i.e. methanol, deionized water, or nitric acid rinses), they will be specified in the work plan
for the field event.
Disposable polyethylene tubing will be used for sampling temporary wells. This tubing will
not be used between successive samples.
GILES ENGINEERING ASSOCIATES, INC.
