PUBLICilEALTH SERVICES
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DIVISION
Karen Furst, M.D., M.P.H., Health Officer
304 East Weber Avenue, Third Floor•Stockton, CA 95202
.P
209/468-3420
FIL E UOPY
JEFF GRANBERRY
SHELL OIL CO
PO sox 4023 AUG 0 6 1998
CONCORD CA 94524
RE: WATERLOO SHELL
SITE CODE: 1760
4315 WATERLOO ROAD
STOCKTON CA 95205
In the"Soil Boring Installation Report"dated May 21, 1996 prepared by Enviros, Inc., Enviros
concluded the vertical extent of petroleum contamination at the site to be limited to less than 18
feet below surface grade (bsg) at the northwestern dispenser area, and less than 16 feet bsg at I
the southeastern dispenser area based on the data obtained from the preliminary investigation
which took place between February 21 and February 22, 1996. The report contended the vertical
and horizontal extent of the contamination to be delineated and requested closure for the above-
referenced site. j
In the same above-referenced report, analytical results of the soil sample at 37 feet bsg from soil
boring (SB)#4 at the former UST area were 0.025 parts per million (ppm)Methyl-Tert Butyl Ether
(MTBE), 0.013 ppm Benzene, 0.13 ppm Toluene, 0.086 ppm Ethylene, and 0.074 ppm Xylenes.
This is below the 18 feet bsg vertical delineation of the contamination at the northwest area
asserted by Enviros in the report. Therefore, the vertical extent of the contamination at the
northwest former UST area has not been defined.
You are required to submit a workplan to define the vertical extent of the contamination at the
northwest former UST area by October 3, 1998.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jeffrey Wong at(209)468-0335.
I
Donna Heran, RENS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Jeffrey Wong, EHS, Trainee Margar Lagorio, RE
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor
c: RWQCB, Central Valley Region -Mark List
c: Cambria -Diane Lundquist
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
