C A M B R I A Mr. Jeffrey Wong
March 30, 2005
were for industrial use, one was for municipal use, and two wells were of unknown use. The
closest well is a municipal well located approximately 1,100 feet northeast (cross-gradient) of the
Shell-branded station. The approximate well locations are plotted on Figure 1. No additional
wells were identified by Cambria's 500-foot door-to-door survey. Two surface water bodies were
also identified within the study area. Unnamed ponds are located at the San Joaquin Storm Water
Facility, which is located approximately 250 feet north of the site, and a diverting canal is
approximately 1,900 feet southwest of the site. The surface water bodies are also shown on
Figure 1. Complete survey results are included in Cambria's February 13, 2002 Fourth Quarter
2001 Groundwater Monitoring/Site Investigation Report and Receptor Survey.
Groundwater Monitoring Program: There are currently four groundwater monitoring wells
(MW-1 through MW-4)-onsite that are sampled quarterly. Historically, groundwater flow beneath
the site is predominantly northerly. During the fourth quarter 2004 sampling event, all site wells
contained insufficient water to sample.
Work Tasks
Site Safety Plan: Cambria will prepare a Site Safety Plan for field work.
Over-excavation: Cambria proposes to conduct over-excavation in the dispenser and piping areas
shown on Figure 2, based on preliminary analytical data following the UST, dispenser, and piping
removal. Cambria will attempt to remove impacted soil in these areas to the extent that is feasible.
The final extent of over-excavation will be based on field observations and photo-ionization
detector measurements. Physical constraints, such as the canopy supports, may limit the extent of
over-excavation.
Soil Sampling and Chemical Analyses: Soil samples will be collected at the limits of the
excavation to document soil conditions. Soil samples will be analyzed for TPHg, BTEX, and
MTBE by EPA Method 8260B. Cambria will request 24-hour turn-around time for the laboratory
results.
Soil Disposal: As discussed with SJCEHD, up to 150 cubic yards of soil will be directly loaded
into trucks for transportation to Allied Waste's Forward Landfill (Forward)in Manteca, California
under an existing profile. Cambria does not anticipate that more than 150 cubic yards of soil will
be generated during the course of over-excavation activities. If it is, the soil will be stockpiled
onsite and profiled for disposal at Forward.
3
