9 DRAFT 0
The subcontractor selected for excavation, transportation and disposal will arrange for
soil profiling for landfill gate acceptance criteria and provide hazardous waste manifests
for disposal documentation.
Confirmation Soil Sampling Laboratory Analyses
Each of the soil samples collected for quantitative analysis will be submitted under
chain-of-custody control to Alpha Analytical Laboratories (Alpha) of Sparks Nevada.
Alpha is a California State-certified laboratory able to perform the required analyses.
Approximately fifty-nine (59) discrete confirmation soil samples collected from within the
excavation will be submitted for the following analyses:
• Total Purgeable Petroleum Hydrocarbons [C4-C10] including Benzene, Toluene,
Ethylbenzene, Xylenes [BTEX] by EPA Method 8260
• Total Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbons [C10-C40] by EPA Method 8015M
The samples will be analyzed on a standard two-week turn-around-time (TAT) requiring
approximately 10 working days. Please note expedited TAT can be obtained at
additional costs.
Sloping and Backfilling Operations
Kleinfelder recommends sloping the excavation according to OSHA guidelines. Based
on preliminary soil conditions (soil logs), Kleinfelder estimates a 1 '/2 to 1 slope will be
acceptable during excavation activities. However, the excavation subcontractor will be
responsible to ensure the slope conditions meet the requirement of OSHA and
applicable state and federal regulations. Kleinfelder also recommends stockpiling
apparent clean soil related to sloping operations followed by collecting 4-point
composite soil samples of this material. Kleinfelder recommends collecting a single 4-
point composite sample for each 2,000 cubic yards of this material. Assuming this
material is clean, Kleinfelder recommends using this material for backfill operations.
Kleinfelder proposes backfilling to 90% compaction using clean fill material. However,
the backfill subcontractor will be responsible for backfilling with acceptable material at
compaction rates suitable for the proposed land use.
Task 2 — HEALTH RISK ASSESSMENT (HRA)
A human health screening evaluation will be conducted to estimate the potential chronic
health hazard from the potential contamination at the site.
The health risk assessment will evaluate the following:
Construction of a conceptual model for the property identifying receptor groups,
exposure media, and exposure pathways.
44843.T04/ST05R997/DH:ly Page 7 of 14
©2005 Kleinfelder, Inc.
