DRAFT 0
• Identification of chemicals of potential concern (COPC) and their physical
constants and concentrations to evaluate industrial/commercial use exposure.
• Description of human toxicity information of the specific COPC, and
• A risk characterization summary of the exposure assessment and toxicity
information for each chemical and exposure pathway.
Please note depending on specific proposed building locations and preliminary HRA
findings, additional evaluation of soil vapor intrusion may be warranted based on an
additional soil vapor assessment after conclusion of excavation activities.
TASK 3 — MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION ACTIVITIES
Permitting and Pre-Field Activities
EHD requires completion of a well permit, and payment fees of prior to installation of
monitoring wells. Kleinfelder will prepare drilling permit applications for submittal to
EHD along with the required initial fees. The permits must be approved prior to drilling
activities and sampling. EHD usually requires up to approximately two weeks to issue
the permits. This workplan should be submitted by the client to EHD under a separate
cover letter. EHD may bill the Client directly for oversight time on the project.
Kleinfelder will visit the site to mark the assessment area for Underground Service Alert
at least 48 hours prior to conducting the field work. Kleinfelder will also notify Chevron
Pipeline Company and PG&E at least 72 hours prior to conducting field work
Monitoring Well Installation and Surveying
Three (3) monitoring wells will be installed at the locations shown on Plate 2. The
proposed well locations have been selected to address groundwater conditions in the
estimated upgradient and downgradient locations to the pipeline spill. One well is
proposed upgradient and two down-gradient of the spill area. Based upon available
information, we anticipate groundwater in the vicinity of the project site to be present at
a depth of approximately 40-45 feet bgs with a groundwater flow direction to the north-
northeast.
The soil borings will be drilled with a truck mounted drill rig equipped with 8-inch hollow
stem augers. During advancement of the soil borings, soil samples will be collected at
five-foot intervals for lithologic classification and possible laboratory analysis. Lithologic
classification will be based on the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS). All
equipment used in the drilling and installation procedures will be cleaned and/or
decontaminated as described in Appendix B. Soil cuttings generated from the drilling
operation will be contained in 55-gallon drums or removed offsite as part of the
44843.T04/ST05R997/DH:Iv Page 8 of 14
©2005 Kleinfelder, Inc.
