Stewart's Beacon
Remedial Action Plan
-- Page: 3
submitted to ChromaLab in San Ramon,California via A&L Western Agricultural ft
Laboratories in tMOdestc,California. The detection limits for gasoline is 10.0 mg/kg,
diesel and motor oil I0.0 mg/kg,and BTX&H is 5.0µg/kg,
3.2 Disposition of Contaminated Soil
3.2.I Stockpiling and Tes ting
The excavated soil rill be separated into piles of approximately 50 cubic
yards, Each pile will have a composite sample collected from three different
V
samp!ing points on the pile. These samples will also be submitted to
tt, + Chromalab via A&L and will be tested for TPH. Previous analytical results
(Table 1 &2)indicate that lead and EDB are nota problem i
n the
Therefore, the'esting for these compounds are not included in thiswoorkplan.
In the interim, each pile of sediments will be covered with b mil plastic
sheeting. Once the Jab data has been evaluated,a treatment schedule will be
`wJ established and submitted to the County.
3.2.2 Treatment and Disposal
The proposed treatment method is soil aeration. The aeration schedule(i.e.,
number of cubic yards per day)will be established based on the analytical
results of the composite samples data and on the County's regulations. The
allowable rate of uncontrolled aeration of contaminated soil is given in Table 3.
s The aeration schedule for these sedi, nents will follow this schedule. A permit
will be obtained from the air pollution control district before the spreading
begins.
i
When the aeration project is complete, compos:ie samples will once mare be
collected(one sample per 50 cubic yards). Once the aeration process is complete,
the remediated soil will be used to backfill the excavation. This material will.
go at the top of the hole, while the bottom of the excavation will be filled
with clean that originated from the new tank excavation. the, acWilled
material will be mechanically compacted to at least 90%.
