Work Plan
Stewarts Beacon
Project No.01-17.1.2
March 12„1940
Page: B
calculations using the equations in Section 3.2 are subject to lnsuffiden2y known
Parameters. This is true Particularly for sediment properties, expressed as
highly variable grain size distribution or sorting, cn?ating stratification
patterns that influence ground water flow.
i-F
The testing will include yield and drawdown measurements in the extraction
wells amt draw-dawn in adjacent monitoring wells. 'These pump tests will be
perform-d for 10 to 12 hours. The resulting draw-down can be plugged into
equation'3.1 to determine the hydraulic conductivity of the sediments more
prec?seI,-: However, the draw-down in the surrounding sediments can be
detetnuned graphically directly from the draw downs in the monitoring wells
if they are strategically placed. This information will better enable
Geological Technics to evaluate the proper pumping rate during the interim
remediation.
During the well testing, the water will be pumped into holding tanks for future
treatment.
w 3.4.4 Installation and Adjustment of Complete System
° r The treatment system will be installed and adjusted for maximum efficiency.
This will include the sampling for laboratory analysis of the water from the
". sampling Forts, the emissions air with hydrocarbon vapors emanating from the
aeration tank Pumping rate will be adjusted so that Optimum drawdown is
created.
3.4.5 Monitoring the System
Monitoring wil! include laboratory analysis of the expelled air containing
. hydrocarbon vapors, and water from the well, from after the aeration tank, and
between and after the carbon canisters: It will also include water level
measurements in the adjacent monitoring wells.
Water samples will be drawn from the sampling ports at the well, after the
aeration tank, and after the carbon canister and analyzed for BTEX and
gasoline. The sampling schedule will be as follows:
I. After starting system.
2. Every week for the duration of the project.
When the levels of BTEX and gasoline have all been below State_drinkin
-water-standards-for two-consecutive-weeks,the interim remediation will be J
halted and the results presented to the regulatory agents for evaluation.
