The well will be constructed of 2-inch threaded-joint PVC pipe (schedule si0)
that is perforated from the bottom of the well to about 0.5 feet above the water table.
Number 3 sand will be used to create a filter pack that extends from the bottom of the
well to 2 fee►above the perforated zone. Three feet of bentonite pellets and granular
bentonite will be emplaced above the filter pack in the annular space. Extending from
above the annular bentonite seal up to grade will be cement grout consisting of quickgel
and neat cement. The monitoring well will be secured
cementing in a water tight well box and a lockinand a surface seal obtained by
monitoring well is shown in Figure 3. g P Construction of a typical
5.6 Monitoring Well Development
Each monitoring well will be developed before a water sample is collected. This will
— be accomplished by pumping until clear ground water is obtained and then removing an
additional 5 well volumes. Where time-endurance sampling procedures are used,
ground water will be pumped over a period of several hours with samples being
collected periodically throughout the course ofum to . 'the
extracground water
will be stored in 55.gaIlon drums until it is determ:ed if the watertis contaminated.
Contaminated water will be treated at a later date. Uncontarntater will be
released to the surface. —ed _.w._. _
5.7 Ground Water Sampling
The wells will be Purged with 5 well volumes(one well volume=the amount of water
contained within the well casing)before a ground water sample is collected. A travel
w blank will be provided by the laboratory and field blanks will be collected-before—
sampling to.insure bailerorpump cleanliness.
