Hunter and Associates for the above referenced
site.
The report concludes that the lateral limits of the soil and groundwater contamination have been
defined. The plume is of limited size and has migrated less than 40 feet from the source.
PHS/EHD concurs with this conclusion. However free product in groundwater has been observed
in SB-2 at a depth of 11' bgs. SB-2 is bounded by the excavation, SB-5 and SB-6 all of which are
which are free from liquid phase hydrocarbons. The free product appears to be confined to
groundwater in the immediate area of SB-2.
The workplan submitted with this quarterly report proposes an interim remedial action consisting
of removal of the pump island, a limited over excavation to 5' bgs, and removal and treatment of
liquid phase petroleum byproducts. PHS/EHD concurs with an over excavation approach, as
opposed to an extraction well, due to the limited lateral extent and shallow occurrence of the free
product. The over excavation should be extended to groundwater in order to create a sump from
which collected free product may be removed.
PHS/EHD requests an addendum to the workplan specifically addressing free product removal by
November 14, 1997.
If you have any questions, please contact Steve Sasson REHS, at(209)468-3459.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Sv asson, Senior Margaret Lagorio, REHS
Site Mitigation Unit Supervisor
cc: Pat Anderson, CVRWQCB
cc: Mel Jacobo, SWRCB
cc: William Hunter, William J Hunter&Associates
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
