r
Burick
Addendum H B.C.&D. Properties
Project No. 01-8.1
April 13,1992
.+ Page 2
will be hydrated with tap water and be allowed to expand for a period of one hour.
In the remaining annulus, neat cement grout will be pressure installed up to grade
using a tremie tube. The well will be secured with a water tight locking cap encased
within a traffic safe well box. A well construction schematic is attached as Figure 3.
MW-4's measuring point (top of casing) will be surveyed and it's elevation and
relative position will be referenced to the existing monitoring wells on site.
Soil Sampling and Analyses
All soil samples will be screened using field methods by observing odor,
discoloration, and organic vapor meter reading.
Selected soil samples to include one from the capillary fringe will be submitted to
GeoAnlaytical Laboratories (State Certified Laboratory #E757) for benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX), and total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline
(TPH-Gasoline) analyses. The detection limits for the EPA 8020 (BTEX) analysis is 5.0
jig/kg and 2.5 mg/kg for TPH-Gasoline analysis.
Well Development, Sampling and Analyses
After installation, MW-4 will be developed by mechanical surging and pumping
until a clear stream is obtained. Development water will be pumped from the well
using a jet pump and containerized in D.O.T. approved drums to be disposed of
properly.
After a period of 48 hours has passed since development, MW-4 will be purged and
sampled. At least 5 well volumes will be purged to ensure that formation water
enters the well before collecting the groundwater sample. Groundwater parameters
(pH, temperature, and conductivity) will be measured and recorded during purging.
All purge water will be containerized in D.O.T. approved drums to be disposed of
properly.
A travel blank provided by the laboratory, will accompany the water samples
throughout the transportation process. Equipment blanks will be collected before
sampling to ensure bailer and/or pump cleanliness. Water samples will be collected
by using either a disposable polyethylene bailer or a groundwater pump (bladder
pump). All water samples will be preserved with the addition of 1 mi. of
hydrochloric acid to retard possible biological degradation of the sample. The sample
vials will be labeled and inserted into a closed cell foam holder and placed in an ice
chest at 4° Celsius for transport to the laboratory.
A Chain of Custody will be completed for all samples collected and tracked to ensure
sample integrity.
