This assessment was conducted in response to a detection of
methyl tertiary butyl ether (MtBE) in a groundwater sample collected from a soil boring on
the proposed Safeway property located north of the site. This MtBE detection was
documented in GeoTrans' report Pre-Gas Station Screening Level II Environmental
Assessment, dated May 31, 2001. The assessment work was performed in accordance with
SECOR's work plan, dated August 9, 2001, which was approved by the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Division (SJCEHD) on August 21, 2001.
SITE BACKGROUND AND PREVIOUS INVESTIGATIONS
The site is an operating Chevron station located at 1960 West l I 1 Street in Tracy, California.
Current station features include three USTs in a common excavation, a station building, six
product dispensers under a common canopy, and a car wash. The site was formerly
agricultural land. To the north of the Chevron site, a Safeway with a gasoline service station
is being developed. A summary of previous investigations is included in Attachment A.
ASSESSMENT ACTIVITIES AND FINDINGS
On November 8, 2001, Gregg Drilling and Testing, Inc. of Martinez, California completed six
Geoprobe soil borings, under SECOR's supervision, and collected groundwater samples for
analysis. Figure 2 shows the locations of these borings. Each boring was advanced to
approximately 20 feet below ground surface (ft bgs). Groundwater samples were collected at
first encountered water, approximately 15 ft bgs in each boring. Field and laboratory
procedures are included as Attachment B.
3017 Kilgore Road, Suite 100, Rancbo Cordova, CA 95670 916.861.0400 916.861.0430 Fax www.secor.com
