February 10, 2005
NOA Project Numbet: E05001A
Modesto Formation. The Modesto Formation consists of arkosic alluvium forming Mokelumne
River terraces and alluvial fan; chiefly sand with minor gravel and silt;probably glacial outwash
(Plate-7). The Modesto Formation in Manteca has a relatively high amount of coarse grained soils
such as sand and silty sand.
k The surface and near surface soils located at the Site are reported by the San Joaquin Count'Soil Survey
to be composed of Timor loamy sand, 0-2% slopes (Plate 8) (USDA, 1992). Table 3 presents some
selected properties of these soils:
Table 3.
--San Joaquin County Soil-Survey—
Selected Soil Properties of On-Site Soils.
M Soil Name Depth Unified Soil Classification Salinity Soil Perme- Septic tank
and Map (in) mmhos/cm Reaction ability absorption
Symbol pH (in/hr) fields
_._ Timor 0-14: Loamy sand;SM <2 6.6-T8 6.0-20 Severe:poor
loamy sand, 14-56: Loamy sand,'loamy coarse sand; <2 7.4-8.4 6.0-20 filter
0-2% SM
{
slopes,254. 1 56-60: 1 Cemented --- --- --
Note: The table descriptions do not necessarily reflect site-specific soil properties.
Fi 5.1 Soil Boring Locations
A total of two soil borings were advanced on the Site, one (1) boring to a depth of 15 feet, one (1)
boring to a depth of three feet. The 15-foot deep soil boring was a soil profile boring and ground
water boring. The three foot deep soil borings was used-later for percolation a shallow test. The
locations of the borings are indicated in Plate 1.
5.2 Soil Boring Dimensions
The soil borings were 15 feet, three feet, as noted above, and were three inches in diameter.
S Fi 5.3 Soil Lithology Observed
J -
Generally, the soil encoutitered'in the boring is similar to the soils reported by the San Joaquin
F] County Soil Survey for the area (USDA, 1992). Table 4 presents a representative soil log for the
I 15-foot deep soil profile boring.
6
