CHAPTER 3. INVENTORY <br /> A. Location and Settiin� <br /> Stockton Metropolitan Airport is owned and operated by the County of San Joaquin, with <br /> the County seat in the City of Stockton. San Joaquin County is primarily rural <br /> s (approximately 97 percent) with the remaining three percent in urban land uses in and <br /> around seven incorporated cities and 12 town sites. <br /> The Stockton Metropolitan Airport is located near the midpoint of the Great Central <br /> p iP <br /> Valley of California. It is situated approximately 65 miles east of San Francisco, 50 miles <br /> south of Sacramento, and 75 miles west of Yosemite National Park. Los Angeles is <br /> y approximately 350 miles south of Stockton. <br /> Y The airport is well served with highways. The major north-south arterial Interstate 5 <br /> J ' freeway passes 13/4 miles west of the airport. State Route 99 abuts the eastern boundary <br /> of the airport with an interchange at Arch Road and French Camp Road. City/County <br /> } road Airport Way is located on the west side of the airport. Arch Airport Road connects <br /> Highway 99 and Airport Way on the north side of the airport. The City and County plan <br /> to extend Arch-Sperry Road to Interstate 5. Current access from Interstate 5 is circuitous <br /> �+ but once Arch Airport Road is extended to Interstate 5 there will be excellent..access to <br /> the airport from both Interstate 5 and State Route 99. <br /> B. Land <br /> 3 <br /> � The airport property currently occupies 1,549 acres. All of this land is located between <br /> f Airport Way and Highway 99 except for 60.96 acres of the Runway Protection Zone <br /> (RPZ) east of Highway 99 and 38.7 acres of the Runway Protection Zone (RPZ) <br /> northwest of Arch Airport Road. Zoning on the airport property is Airport Multi-Use <br /> ' (AP/X). <br /> �i C. Climate <br /> The climate of the San Joaquin County area is arid. High temperatures in the summer for <br /> a few days can reach above 110° F. Low temperatures at night in the winter sometimes <br /> fall below freezing. The prevailing winds are out of the northwest. The average annual <br /> rainfall is approximately 16 inches. Once in awhile in the winter small amounts of snow <br /> �+ will accumulate. During the spring, summer and fall periods clear skies persist day and <br /> night. All of the rain occurs during the winter months, and there are extensive periods <br /> of tule fog during the winter period. During the fog, vilsibilities sometimes approach zero <br /> i <br /> feet. <br /> 3-1 <br /> �h <br />
