f
f
I Three factors influence response time to calls for service.
One is the size of the geographic area. The larger the area,
f the longer the distance travelled and the greater the response time.
Second, is population served. The greater the population, the more
calls for service one can expect and greater the liklihood that a
F patrolperson will be on a call when another call for service is
received. Response time increases when one call has to ' be finished
before a deputy can respond to the next call for service.
Lastly, the number of responders available to answer calls for
service can determine if there is a waiting period before a call
can be answered.
The size of the County cannot be changed, size and distance travelled
remains a constant.
This development will increase the size of the population and if
Sheriff's resources are not increased correspondingly then it will
have a major impact on the Sheriff's ability to- continue to provide
the current level of police services.
f In addition to the projected population increase that will create
k greater reponse times, The County Board of Supervisors has deemed
it necessary to reduce funding for Sheriff's patrol. As of this
writing the budget has not been finalized, but it is apparent that
the size of the Sheriff's patrol force will be reduced. This, coupled
with a larger population will influence response time and ultimately
the satisfaction of service delivered.
In an effort to mitigate the impact this development will have
on the Sheriff's Department, the developer, Michael Atherton, has
been in contact with the Sheriff's crime prevention unit. Together,
we have determined that the following measures would, to some degree,
mitigate the impact this development will have on law enforcement
i sevices.
The measures are:
1. To incorporate crime prevention and defensible space concepts
into the design of this development. This can be accomplished by
following the guidlines established in the California Model
Building And Security Ordinance as established by The California
Crime Prevention Officers Association.
2. To promote and help establish Neighborhood Watch in the development.
s
These two measures will work to make the residents of this development
less likely to be victims of crime. They will not prevent crime from being
N exported from the new neighborhood to other neighborhoods and schools
located within the community of Linden.
