Ameresco is currently obtaining the required permits to begin construction of a new landfill gas to energy facility in the northeast corner of the site, near the existing flare. Site personnel are trained to use and respond to the landfill gas monitoring and alarm system. Identified in EIR: Landfill gas monitoring shall include volatile organic compounds in order to determine the amount of contaminant recovery, and control potential exposure to on site personnel. Current Status: Landfill gas monitoring is conducted on a routine basis and includes the analysis of volatile organic compounds. These results are provided to the RWQCB. g. 37 (E.6) Proposed as Part of the Project: The landfill operator will follow legally required daily or alternative cover practices. The landfill will continue to ban intact tires (which collect water and serve as a breeding ground for vectors) and large dead animals from disposal at the landfill. Existing measures to discourage birds from the landfill will be continued. Appropriate landfill personnel will periodically monitor the landfill for the presence of vectors, and landfill inspections will be documented in the landfill operations administrative file. Current Status: Forward follows legally required daily or alternative cover practices and bans intact tires and large dead animals. Bird abatement measures will be continued and the landfill will continue to be monitored and documented for the presence of vectors. A falconer is used to assist in deterring birds at the site. h. 38 (E.7) Identified in EIR: (a) All applicable regulatory guidance originating after the Forward Landfill 1993 EIR and Austin Road Landfill 2000 EIR shall be implemented; all hazardous materials shall be handled in accordance with local, State, and federal regulations.
