Banta Road
Tracy, CA 95376
RE: DBCP in your Water Well for PA-0400045 (itlinor Subdivision)
e
As'part of the subdivision approval process, water test results (per our condition B) were
submitted by Neil Anderson & Associates, Inc. in which a sample taken December 14, 2004, was
tested for the chemical Dibromochloropropane (DBCP) and showed results of 0.0823 ug/L (parts
per billion) in your domestic well at 23544 South Banta Road, Tracy, California.
! Il
The State Department of Health Services adopted a standard of 0.2 parts per billion (ppb) for
DBCP in public drinking water systems in 1989; however, private well owners are not legally
required to meet this standard. As a precaution for yourself and family, we would suggest that
you have your domestic well tested annually to verify if the above-described chemical rises
FrF above state drinking standards.
3
i for Dibromochloro ro ane exceeded the State
If your private and/or agricultural well analysis p p
standard of 0.2 ppb, the following alternatives are being provided for your guidance: E
q
1." As a temporary measure, it is recommended that bottled drinking water be used if this well is
:1 supplying drinking water.
2.' In cases where exposure may continue indefinitely, such as with contaminated private wells,
installation of a water treatment device, such as a filter, may be advisable. However, using
bottled water or installing a water treatment device at the kitchen water tap, will not stop
exposure to DBCP if it is in your private water supply. Most treatment units sold for home
' installation only treat water at theoinntt_o_f use, such as the kitchen faucet, and do not prevent
exposure through skin contact, bathing or inhalation. As a result, point of entry filters, which
treat water for the entire house, are recommended because they remove all potential sources
of exposure. The "granular activated carbon" filter is the recommended water treatment
device in this case. It operates by passing the well ,vatcr through a charcoal bed, thereby
absorbing the DBCP contaminant. Water treatment equipment suppliers and installers are
listed in your phone directory yellow pages under"Water Filtration & Purification
Equipment."
li
