I
April 20, 2005
NOA Project Number: E04116A
Page 2
After talking to Mr. Marshal McCloud from the Tracy Defense Depot (personal communication,
April 6, 2005) he believes that the Depot is not a source of DBCP in the area. He said that they have
done extensive testing and have found no traces of DBCP on the property or in any of the
monitoring wells for the contamination plume. He also said that there are no records of the Depot
ever storing or using DBCP. He also noted that DBCP is a "primary" chemical is not formed from
the break down of other chemicals.
Dibromochloropropane (DBCP) is a pesticide that was used for over 20 years, until 1977, to control
` y worms that.cause_damage to crops.and-other plants. Though it is no longer used or produced in the '" ` F
United States, DBCP is still found in groundwater in areas with past high use (Cornell, 2004). Being
that the subject property and the area surrounding it has been used as agriculture for a long time,it
is possible that DBCP was applied to fields.
5.1-5.2: As you noted, there was an error in the report as to our percolation test hole diameter. The
percolation test holes were drilled with a three inch diameter hand auger. When the drilling of the
holes is complete, the diameter of the hole is 4 inches. We have replaced our old three inch diameter
hand auger with a four inch auger, to avoid confusion and to insure that our holes fully comply with
EHD requirements.
6.5: The pre-tests for the one hour percolation tests lasted 10 minutes, the one hour test and pre-test
criteria were satisfied so the pre-tests became the first reading of the percolation tests.
We appreciate your recommendations for this project and your continued interest in our work.
Best Regards,
NEIL O.ANDERSON&ASSOC., INC.
No. 215_1 -
.
