You
have requested this information in addition to the Soil Suitability and Nitrate Loading Study
prepared by our office on December 23, 2005. The information presented in this letter is based
on information discussed in the report and new information presented here. The calculation is
also based on the following important assumptions:
✓1) Only six chicken houses are planned to be built by SKS Enterprises. The site plan
calls for nine chicken houses to be built. The revised information was provided to
our office by SKS Enterprises.
/2) Initially, a maximum of 50 percent of the compost will be applied to land
according to SKS Enterprises. Later, 100 percent of the compost will be hauled
off site for sale.
✓ 3) The nitrogen content of the chicken manure/compost was obtained from the
average of three poultry facilities tested by Washington State University in 1996
(www.esanr.wsu.edu/Tesources/compost/Cc2.pdfl. The nitrogen of the three
varied significantly and actual nitrogen content may differ somewhat.
4) Additional assumptions regarding the calculations arc noted on the attached work
sheet.
The nitrogen loading estimate should be viewed as a gross, initial calculation to estimate the
pounds of nitrogen which may be *generated at the site from all the different uses. The sources of
nitrogen include an initial 50 Nrcent land application of compos"eptic ugeg anbnitrogen-fwm
LODI ■ SACRAMENTO ■ MODESTO
ENVIRONMENTAL DIVISION 902 Indasndal Way,Lodi,Cudocnia 95240 ■209.367.3701 0 209.369.42-18 fax 0 w..nuanduson.com
