- December 23, 2005
r NOA Project Number: E05174A
= The Nitrate Loading Study as required by the EHD,will only address the rain fall and septic uses
related to the property. It will not address the nitrogen applied to the land in the form of chicken
manure compost.
The manure plan is being prepared by SKS Enterprises Incorporated and will be submitted
separately to the EHD. It is unclear to our office whether the California Regional Water Quality
Control Board will require any permits to apply the compost to fields. At the time of this report,
SKS Enterprises is preseintly investigating the California Regional Water Quality Control Board
process.
.1
3.4 Future On-Site Sources of Nitrate
M
-1 113.4.1 Quantity and Quality ofDomestic Wastewater From Proposed Project
3, The following discussion is for determining the long-term waste water flow generated from the
residences septic systems and commercial septic system uses for the nitrate loading analysis and
should not be used for septic system design purposes. Typically, use estimates for the sizing of
septic systems include a peak use factor, whereas the numbers discussed here are based on long-term
w
=' averages.
r Table 1 presents the employee levels today and at full build out which is planned for five years. The
-j Table also presents the work schedules and provides an estimate of the average daily flow from the
facility. All the known septic uses occur on parcel 023-170-08; the 363.66 acre parcel. The other
two parcels associated with the Use Permits do not have any active septic-related uses.
k ,
The estimated sewage flow rates for use categories are available from a number of references. The
uses presented below were guided by the San Joaquin County On-Site Wlastewater Disposal Standards
t- (2003), Crites and Tchobanoglous (1998), and EPA (1980). Therefore,we estimate that 14 gallons
per day for each em loyee. The references indicate that 14 gallons for each employee is typical for
an office worker (Crites and Tchobanoglous, 1998). No customer visits are planned. Customer
visits are rare at the site. Residential use is 70 gallons per day per resident. It will be assumed that
maximum use would be one more person than total bedrooms. An example of this is that
maximum use for a 3-bedroom house is 4-people. Therefore, the average daily use from a 3-
bedroom home is 4 people times 70 gallons per day per person, which is 280 gallons per day.
LF The use rates presented in reference material provide general guidance but do not always reflect a
.. match in usage. Careful examination, professional judgement, and experience are necessary to select
a reasonable flow rate estimate. The estimated use rates associated with this project are presented
i
next.
R
. F
5
