I ,
=C ti y
1
Shiningtree
ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES
P.O. BOX 1875 - MURPHYS, CA 95247-1875 (2Q9) 72$2529
4/15/88
Mr . Tim Smith RG
TKS Consulting
Box 842
Pine Grove , Ca . 95665
~RE: Rocsan Sand & Gravel -Noise .. ,
I
bear Tim:
At your request we have prepared estimates of noise1-impacts
associated with the proposed new ROCSAN sand & gravel operation
in San Joaquin County . The proposed operation , located in a
sparsely populated agricultural area , is designed to process 4500
tons per day of aggregate . The major sources of noise will be
from mobile sources associated with haulage and from the
stationary equipment at the plant site . I
i
The :,estimated project related noise contours are shown in 3
exhibits. One showing daytime 55 & 60 dBa LEQ, the second!i1showing
night 55 & 60 dBa LEQ, and the third showing the 65 dBa Ldn
contour . '
Plant Noise
The plant as proposed will process run of pit sand and
gravel at a rate of 4500 tons per day 24 hours per day . The plant
expects to handle pit -run sand and gravel , 100% of which.11! passes
through a 4" screen . I have inspected the quarry site and have
noted the apparent lack of large cobbles , but for "modeling
purposes we used 90% passing 6" which increases the anticipated
level of processing noise.
S
The site is characterized as a "soft site" , i.e .:, grass
covered fields as opposed to rocky or paved surfaces . We searched
our rock plant in-house database and found 2 similar operations
in this region processing the same approximate tonnages a;nd same
product sizes . The site having the highest noise level was used
in this model . We did not allow for any shielding due to ,barriers
' or stockpiles which could reduce noise levels below thoselsshown.
II
i
i
 I
I
