Seasonal variation in the depth to water in the area is typically in
a
the range of several feet.
` The nearest open water in the area is the Stanislaus River, which lies about 3
miles to the south.
4.2 Known and Potential Groundwater Contamination
f There are many possible sources of groundwater contamination including
leaking storage tanks, surface releases of hazardous materials, over-use of
agricultural chemicals, leakage from dairy lagoons, and septic sewage seepage.
w A detailed investigation of potential groundwater contamination was beyond the
scope of this investigation however, the State Water Board's "GeoTracker"
website http://aeotracker.swreb.ca.gov/ was searched to help identify possible
` sources of nearby groundwater contamination. No such sites were identified
within one mile of the chapel site. No nearby dairy lagoons or other common
I '+ potential sources of contamination were noted in the air photo.
Agricultural chemicals from off-site sources must be considered as possible
sources of groundwater contamination at this site. In the up-gradient direction,
f the nearest residential septic system is about ;/ mile away. Off-site septic
r, systems are not believed to be likely sources of nitrates in the groundwater
under the subject site.
4.3 Water Well Sampling and Analysis
A domestic water well is present on-site. Records pertaining to the well were
searched:at the EHD, and information found suggests the well is 185 feet deep
and has a grout seal at 120 feet. The well is located near the north side of the
wall surrounding the house as shown on figure 3A in Appendix A.
Geo-Phase Environmental, Inc. sampled the well on August 20, 2009. The well
was not equipped with a wellhead spigot, and the sample was collected from a
r— spigot at the front of the adjacent house. The water was allowed to run for
_ several minutes prior to the sample collection. This purged the aboveground
pipes and pressure tank and helped to help assure that the sample was fresh
2937 Veneman Ave.,#5240 Geo-Phase Environmental Inc.
