3" 7
VI. Records
This operation has a less than significant impact on the environment and on the
local disposal facilities. If the county would like an annual report, I will be happy
to provide them with one, if they can provide to me the requirements of such a
report-
VII. Conclusion:
j As with the ranches of yesteryear, we are a fairly self-sufficient operation, making
use of everything one way or another. We reduce, re-use and/or recycle every-
thing we possibly can. We make every effort to help our environment, not add to
the burdens the environment is already bearing. We even take the horse hair from
the manes and tails of the horses and braid it into bracelets and other horse hair
items and turn the hoof pieces into dog chews. On the rare occasion that we have
horse shoes, we re-use them into part of our hitch rails, hoof stands, handles,
latches and other metal items, as needed.
When 'we have wire fencing that we can no longer use, we give it to local 4-H or
FFA members for their project animals or we use it inside a concrete project to
reinforce the concrete pad. We re-use old fence posts into bracing on other
building projects. We have built an entire building out of recycled lumber from a
concrete tilt up building, thereby utilizing wood that would have gone into a
landfill.' The rubber mats and feed pans we use are made from recycled
tires. The manure is used to fertilize our own ground and the ground of local
farmers, growers and gardeners, thereby eliminating the need for environmentally
unfriendly chemical fertilizers.
We commonly go out of our way to utilize the waste products from other
businesses and industries, thereby reducing IME environmental impact, because
we are re-using or recycling their waste product into something we need here on
the ranch. These waste products are NOT generated here, but they are utilized
here.
In conclusion, this household and this horse ranch are not part of the proMm. We not
only reduce, reuse and recycle virtually everything possible AND have a less than
significant impact on the environment and the solid waste disposal system, but we actually
ARE PART-OF THE SOLUTION,by utilizing the solid waste from other industries.
Other businesses should do as well.
1
