The project consists of five
residential Lots, each with a land area of five acres. The Lots are sequentially numbered 1
through 5, with Lot 1 as the southernmost Lot and Lot 5 as the northernmost Lot.
/Kleinfelder, Inc. is conducting the Soil Suitability Study for this project, to be submitted to the
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department(EHD). Representatives of Kleinfelder
conducted percolation testing on all five Lots, achieving acceptable perc rates on Lots 1 and 2.
Consequently, percolation testing was done on Lots 3, 4 and 5. Acceptable percolation was
subsequently achieved on these three lots.
, SUBSURFACE SOIL STRUCTURE
A PowerProbe Heavy Hammer DPT/HSA Combo Drill Rig was used to retrieve continuous core
samples in the anticipated perc test locations, and also to drill the perc test borings with four-inch
solid stem auger. Continuous core samples allowed a detailed examination of the underlying soil
morphology to locate the depths of any permeable strata.
For each Lot, a continuous coring was done to the east of the residential building pads. Field
logs of boring were made for each of these continuous cores, and are found in Appendix C. Soil
characteristics are described using the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS). As denoted
on the logs of boring, the soil characteristics underlying the project reveal the soil to be
predominately impermeable, with only very thin layers of permeable strata. Encountered
impermeable soils consist of stiff clays and silts, compact clayey gravel and stiff sandy clays.
Encountered permeable strata consists of well-graded gravel and fine silty sands.
Page-1-
B O.
