The report was written
by ATC Associates on your behalf, and is dated June 27,2000.
The lateral and vertical extent of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination at the site appears to have been
defined. The dissolved hydrocarbon plume appears to extend about 160 feet downgradient from the former
underground storage tank(UST)locations, in a north/northwest direction. The plume appears to be stable
and may be undergoing intrinsic bioremediation. Because the data collected to determine if bioremediation
is occurring were somewhat ambiguous and not definitive,ATC further supported the concept of
bioremediation with numerical calculations.
The critical factor in determining whether this site can be closed is the on-site domestic well. The well is
located approximately 100 feet crossgradient of the plume. The well is completed at a depth of 139 feet
below ground surface(bgs)with perforated casing extending from 130 feet to 139 feet bgs. A 100-foot
cement grout sanitary seal extends from the surface to 100 feet below grade. Clay is present from 22 to 51
feet bgs and from 70 to 131 feet bgs.
According to the numerical calculations submitted by ATC,the estimated time for the hydrocarbon plume
to reach the on-site domestic well by advection would be 20 years. Additional calculations submitted by
ATC indicate that petroleum hydrocarbons would be biodegraded to regulatory levels within about I 1
years.
Additional information is required before this site can be considered for closure. Because of the proximity
of the on-site well, the hypothesis submitted by ATC associates should be verified'by computer modeling.
If the computer model supports the statements made by ATC,the site will be considered for closure at that
time.
If you have any questions, please call Rebecca Setliff,EHS,the assigned caseworker for this site,at(209)
468-3440 or Margaret Lagorio,supervising REHS at(209)468-3449.
Donna Heran,Director
Environmental Health Division
Dot Lofstrom,R.G.
Engineering Geologist
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
