Only in the months
of December and January, and possibly.November and February would deep percolation
potentially occur. This data illustrates a relatively high potential.for there to be significant
evapotranspiration (or bare soil surface evaporation) from the disposal area.
III: NITRATE ;LOADING S`TUDY-FINDINGS
A. WASTEWATER CHARACTERISTICS AND FLOW VOLUME PROJECTIONS
WASTEWATER CHARACTERISTICS
No concentrated organic loading'should exist, because.there will-be no kitchen and a large
percentage of the wastewater flows will be wash water. This graywater will be from the washing of
hands, feet and face.before prayer', and will have very low nitrogen_concentrations. Blackwater will
originate from toilets. Additional wastewater constituents may consist of other liquids to the
system. No industrial or commercial chemicals, solvents, etc.should be introduced into the septic
treatment system.
From the anticipated characteristics described above, the nitrogen emanating from the project -
should be at a much lower concentration than what would normally-.-be-found in a typical domestic
or.household system, primarily due to the majority of the wastewater originating from the washing
of hands, feet and face before prayer. This graywater will'create a dilution effect toW'any
blackwater
generation. The scientific literature (Ref 9) cites nitrogen concentrations in septic effluent typically
ranging from 17 mg NIL for basins, sinks, etc. to 140 mg NIL for toilerwastes.
Because of the strict Muslim Cultural practice of the forbiddance of the elimination of bodily wastes:
within a Mosque (except in emergencies) as explained by Mr. Mohammad Arain, the 140 mg N/L
referenced above maybe reduced to 10%-of this value, or 14 mg'N/L. Feet, hand"and face washing
may contribute the same concentration as referenced-above at 17 mg-N/L.
11 -
Chesney Consulting '
