TERRA VAC
sparging as an alternate technology. The use of air sparging systems to strip hydrocarbons
from the saturated zone and enhance biodegradation have been proven to be an effective
remediation tool. Therefore, an air sparge system will augment the VE system. Captured
vapors will be incinerated prior to discharge to the atmosphere. Based upon past
experience, the total cost of this remediation method is less than $250,000. Additionally
the time s
required to remediate the site to the RBCA established q ed clean up goals for benzene
would be considerably shorter (estimated at 12 to 18 months) than excavation.
10. RECOMMENDATION
Terra Vac recommends that the site be remediated using aacce roven and ted
p p
technology, specifically dual vapor extraction and air sparging. Estimated costs and the
estimated 12 to 18 months to completion form the basis of this recommendation.
ORC applications may be used as a final "polishing" step in the remediation after the bulk
of the contamination is removed. The use of ORCs at this stage of the remediation would
be economical.
i
1
I
I
i
4
Project 30-0212 14 c:Wton130-02121caplrev5lcap-rev5.doc
July 15, 1998
l,s-Mct—ci
