GETTLER - RYAN I
NC.
January 15, 1996
Mr. Brett Hunter
Chevron USA Products Company
P.O. Box 5004
San Ramon, California 94583
Subject: File Search for Sites Near Former Chevron Service Station #9-4054, 2103 Country Club
Boulevard, Stockton, California.
Mr. Hunter:
At the request of Chevron USA Product Company (Chevron), Gettler-Ryan Inc. (G-R) performed a file
search for two underground storage tank (UST) sites near the subject site. The sites reviewed include
Kwikee Foods and Boulevard Auto. Kwikee Foods is located at 2081 Country CIub Boulevard (east of
the subject site, across Franklin Avenue) and Boulevard Auto located at 2151 Country Club Boulevard
(west of the subject site, adjacent parcel). The purpose of this work was to evaluate the status of the
environmental investigations for these sites. Our findings are discussed below.
KWIKEE FOODS SITE
The following summary of site activities was obtained from the Fourth Quarter Report dated January 15,
1995 and First Quarter Report dated April 21, 1995 prepared by Upgradient Environmental Consultants.
These reports are attached for your review.
In 1990, a groundwater monitoring well was installed near the dispenser island and USTs. The well was
originally labelled as MW-1 and has since been changed to KF-3. Groundwater monitoring and sampling
indicated that concentrations of TPHg and benzene were detected at 81,000 and 2,107 ppb. No further
work was conducted at the site until December 1994.
i
In December 1994, groundwater monitoring wells KF-1 and KF-2 were installed onsite. Well KF-1 is
located approximately 28 feet north of the USTs and well KF-2 is located approximately 55 feet east of
the USTs. Analytical results indicated that the soil samples collected from each boring at approximately
10, 15, and 20 feet below surface grade (bsg) did not contain concentrations of TPHg above the
reporting limit of 1.0 ppm. Benzene was less than 0.005 ppm in each of the samples except for the
sample collected from boring KF-1 at 20 feet bsg which contained 0.01 ppm. The lab did flag the TPHg
results for three of the samples ("heavier gasoline range compounds are significant" or "gasoline range
compounds are significant; no recognizable pattern").
Groundwater was measured at approximately 19 feet bsg with a flow direction to the east at a gradient
of 0.001. Analytical results indicated that each of the groundwater samples collected contained detectable
concentrations of TPHg and BTEX. The TPHg concentrations ranged from 4,100 to 17,000 ppb and the
benzene concentrations ranged from 1,300 to 2,400 ppb. The highest concentrations were detected in
i
i
CH94054.LT2
i
6747 Sierra Court , Suite J Dublin , California 94568 { 510) 551 - 7555
