ESI gasoline UST. Figure 2 is a plan of the subject property.
Soil samples collected from the bottom of the excavation at the
time of the UST removal were analyzed for Total Petroleum
Hydrocarbon as gasoline (TPHG) ; Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene
and Xylene (BTEX) . The soil samples taken below the UST in native
soil showed 4,300 and 540 parts per million (ppm) TPHG at 6.5
and 9 feet below grade. The results of these analysis were
documented in a report by JPCA dated August 12, 1996. Soil was
excavated to about 10 feet and aerated. The .excavation was left
open for approximately one year. The excavation was back filled
with clean fill in October 1997.
A workplan for the construction of 3 Monitoring Wells, with soil
samples, commencing at five feet below grade to the saturated
zone, and groundwater samples to be analyzed for Total Petroleum
_ Hydrocarbons as Gasoline (TPHG) , Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene
and Xylene (BTEX) , was submitted to San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Division (SJCEHD) with a Site Specific
Safety Plan.
The workplan was approved with the following additional work
required. An additional Monitoring Well in the center of the
former UST area, soil samples to be collected and analyzed in the
saturated zone and soil samples to be additionally analyzed for
the following oxygenates, Di-isopropyl Ether (DIPE) , Ethyl tert-
Butyl Ether (ETBE) , Methyl-tent Butyl Ether (MTBE) , tert-Amyl .
Methyl Ether (TAME) and tert-Butanol. (tert-B) .
US Alert was contacted and the area for drilling marked for their
reconnaissance. The area marked for drilling was clear of
subterranean utilities. US Alert reference number is 182-362 and
Ticket number 265-91.0.
Forty-eight hours prior to the commencement of work on the
subject property, SJCEHD was contacted as required.
FIELD WORK'
On the mornings of November 4 and 5, 1997, John N. Alt and John
P. Cummings met with the drilling crew at the parcel located at
7777 W. 11th Street, Tracy, CA.
SOILS EXPLORATION SERVICES INC. was the driller for the borings
and well construction. The Boring Logs were prepared by the
Certified Engineering Geologist, who directed the drilling and
recorded the observations of the geologic materials encountered
on site during the drilling. Soil Samples were collected at five
foot intervals. These samples were collected for a description
of the subsurface soil conditions. An Organic Vapor Meter (OVM) ,
2
