...... ------------ -
with a photoionization detector was used to detect the presence
of hydrocarbons in the soil samples. Soil samples were collected
for chemical analysis, commencing at approximately 5 feet and
extending into the saturated zone. The readings from the CVM are
contained in Table 4.
Well Construction
For Boring MW-I , the first 5 feet was moist dark gray clay with
some organic matter. From approximately 5 to 9 feet medium-gray
silty clay, moist with slightly organic matter. At approximately
9 to 13 feet, tan clayey silt grading to tan silty fine sand
moist to wet. At approximately 13 feet the material changed to
medium-brown sand, medium grained, little or no fines,, sand
grains subrounded to subangular and saturated. This well was
very quick to charge. At approximately 22 feet the boring was
terminated.
Twelve feet of 0.02 inch screened 2-inch-diameter, Schedule 40
PVC casing was placed at the bottom of well NW-1 . The remainder
of the well was constructed using regular 2-inch-diameter,
Schedule 40 PVC casing. Approximately 15 feet of #3 Lonestar
Sand was used for the filter pack with a two foot Bentonite seal
above the sand. The remaining portion of the well was filled
with cement grout and a stove pipe placed above grade to avoid
surface water contamination. A locking cap with lock was placed
in the casing to avoid inadvertent surface contamination to
groundwater.
For Boring MW-2, the first 5 feet was moist dark gray clay
plastic and moist. From approximately 5 to 10 feet dark gray
clay, moist, locally silty. At approximately 10 to 15 feet,
medium-brown silty fine sand moist. From approximately 15 to 19
feet, medium-brown fine sand, wet, little or no fines. From
approximately 19 to 21 feet, light brown clayey silt, moist to
wet. This well was very quick to charge. At approximately 20
feet the boring was terminated.
Ten feet of 0_02 inch screened 2-inch-diameter, Schedule 40 PVC
casing was placed at the bottom of well MW-2. The remainder of
the well was constructed using regular 2-inch-diameter, Schedule
40 PVC casing. Approximately 12 feet of #3 Lonestar Sand was
used for the filter pack with a two foot Bentonite seal above the
sand. The remaining portion of the well was filled with cement
grout and a stove pipe placed above grade to avoid surface water
contamination. A locking cap with lock was placed in the casing
to avoid inadvertent surface contamination to groundwater.
For Boring MW-3 , the first 4 feet was dark brown clay, moist and
organic. From approximately 5 to 10 feet medium-gray silty clay,
moist, plastic with veins of caliche. From approximately 10 to
15 feet, medium-brown silty fine sand with clay, wet, thin lenses
3
